Produced by the BBC, Joan Miró: Theatre of Dreams profiles the Spanish painter known for his childlike exuberance and playful abstract images. Ironically, his colorful pieces were often inspired by painful wartime experiences — specifically, the harshness of Franco’s regime. Written and narrated by Miró’s longtime friend Roland Penrose, the documentary features conversations between the two. Miro, who belonged to the surrealist school, often began paintings by marking the canvas with a splotch or a stain, which later transformed into a bird, a pretzel-shaped man, or a crooked star. At 85, Miró was still working.

Without knowing what would soon be awaiting them after meeting the older women, Tommy and Ralph form a rock band as a path to unlimited sexual opportunity. The story unfolds, through the promiscuous, funny and sometimes touching lives of the young band members. By the end of Tommy’s senior year, he’s ready to take on the world.
Maria learns that her aunt Oriana has died and willed her a crumbling and remote Venezuelan hacienda where Maria spent a short time as a girl just entering puberty. Maria goes to the hacienda to prepare the place for sale; while going through her aunt’s papers, she recalls her visit years’ before. In flashbacks, we see the young Maria trying to sort out why Oriana never leaves the hacienda, what secret may be in Oriana’s past, and who the mysterious Sergio was. The young Maria, as she learns things, imagines her aunt’s youth, cruel father, and first love. After these reveries within reveries, Maria, now a grown woman, makes one more discovery.
