For anyone who is interested in such things, the woman who modelled while making turns in the guazey toga-like sheath (at the very beginning, here) has been quite recently very nearly positively identified as San Francisco / Oakland music teacher Mary Dora Gray mother of famous dancer Isadora Duncan. She and Eadweard Muybridge travelled in the same Oakland and Berkeley artistic/”bohemian” artistic circles at the same time. A free spirit, much like her famous daughter, Gray followed the dictates of atheist Robert Ingersoll, occasionally practiced Dalcrozian dress reform and is rumoured to have followed a philosophy of “free love”.
