Leila is a kind-hearted and loving woman whose marriage to Reza starts off happily. But when she learns that she is infertile, her life changes rapidly. Led by two wonderful performances by Leila Hatami (Leila) and Jamileh Sheikhi as Reza’s manipulative mother, this is a powerful and thought-provoking drama that doesn’t disappoint.

Rest in peace Mehrjui. This is one of my favourite films.
Him and his wife were murdered by the Iranian state.

Mehrjui died by homicide indeed, but was 83 years old. Can’t find any reliable source that it was done by the state of Iran (why should they, he was very very old already 🤔). Probably USSA propaganda BS.
Great film, full of humanity.
I continue to be amazed by how much can be created with so little in Iranian cinema!
