Peter Gunn investigates the murder of Scarlotti, a mobster who once saved the detective’s life. The primary suspect appears to be Fusco, who has taken over. In the middle of the case, an unclothed woman calling her self Samantha shows up at Gunn’s apartment. The investigation gets grizzlier as it goes on, including the bombing of Mother’s, one of Gunn’s hangouts. Finally, Fusco gives Gunn a deadline to prove the mobster didn’t kill Scarlotti – or else Gunn will be killed.

Set in London and the Riviera, Laughter in the Dark stars Edward, a wealthy, knighted art dealer who falls hard for tartish usherette Margot. She is kept by a glorified pimp, who conspires with the girl to take Edward for everything he’s got. The art dealer is blinded in an auto accident, after which he switches emotional gears and plans to kill the girl and her keeper.
Anders is an aspiring writer who, along with his friend Sixten, is desperate to escape his working-class upbringing. Anders’ father is an unemployed alcoholic and his mother slaves away at a laundry to support the family. A ray of hope comes Anders’ way when he finishes his first novel and sends it to a publisher. But, after his girlfriend, Elsie, gets pregnant, his future dims before his eyes once more.
A Wild West cow town is starving for entertainment, and it falls upon Calamity Jane, a rowdy, gun-toting,jeans-wearing tomboy, to go to Chicago to bring back a famed stage actress. She brings instead the star’s maid, who settles in the town, but Jane’s love interest falls for her.
A highly respected surgeon and University Professor becomes infatuated with a pretty young acrobat he meets accidentally in the park one evening. He quits his practice, dumping all his patients and dedicates his life to offering her a new home, money and his passionate love, also trying to sponsor her stage career in any possible way. She takes all he gives but it’s never enough for her and she doesn’t really have to give back much because the old man is head over heels in love with her.

A young English tourist called Annabel meets a Greek shepherd during her vacation on a Greek Island. On their first encounter in a field, the shepherd approaches Annabel wanting to give her some almonds but scared of his rustic and rough appearance she misunderstands his intentions and runs away. Soon, he is found in prison accused of the supposed rape of Annabel. She regrets overreacting and tries to persuade the authorities to release him.
Oliveira returned to the center of Portugal’s film scene in the 1960s with Acto da Primavera, a work that marks a significant change in the director’s trajectory and that initiates some of the cinematic strategies that he would develop more fully in later films. In Acto da Primavera, Oliveira offers a version of a popular representation of the Passion of Christ, enacted by members of a rural community in northern Portugal, derived from the Auto da Paixão de Jesus Cristo (1559), by Francisco Vaz de Guimarães.
