“First Comes Courage” (1943) is an exciting dramatic film that stars Merle Oberon as a Norwegian spy. Pretending to fall in love with a Nazi commandant, Oberon’s character is fiercely determined to deliver vital information to resistance fighters in German-occupied Norway while on a dangerous World War II mission. Directed by Dorothy Arzner (who is known for first using a boom microphone during “The Wild Party” (1929), a romance picture starring Clara Bow and Fredric March, as well as directing many early Pepsi commercials for her friend, Joan Crawford), “First Comes Courage” presents an interesting story focusing on an extremely courageous lady with a strong sense of duty.
