A small-town druggist is henpecked by his social-climbing wife to sell his pharmacy to a national chain. In addition, she tries to set up her pretty young daughter with the nitwit son of the chain’s owner, even though the girl is in love with the handsome son of the town doctor. Finally the druggist decides he’s had enough and takes matters into his own hands.

Henry Aldrich for President was the second of Paramount’s “Henry Aldrich” series to star Jimmy Lydon in the teenaged title role. This time Henry is pitted against an arrogant jock for the presidency of the Centerville High School student council. Henry’s chances don’t seem bright, especially since a pompous teacher is writing the opponent’s speeches for him.
Jennifer Peters is a normal girl except for one unfortunate trait. All the women in her family stop any mechanical contrivance that they travel in. As the film progresses, Jennifer stops her boyfriend’s automobile, then a train she travels in without being aware of what she does. Necchi (a bar owner), Perozzi (a journalist), Melandri (an architect) and Mascetti (a broken nobleman) live in Florence. They have been friends since their youngest years and spend every free moment together organizing complex and terrible jokes to all the people they meet, or just wandering around Tuscany. One of these crazy trips ends up in the hospital run by military-like Professor Sassaroli. Melandri falls in love with his wife, and steals her from the husband, much to the delight of Sassaroli himself. The relationship won’t last but the Professor becomes the fifth member of the team of friends, and jokes get even more complicated and powerful.
