For more than three decades, aging Iranian Mohamad Sardari has worked as a crossing guard at a desolate train station. Through the years, Mohamad has done little to stifle the loneliness and boredom inherent in the job. Meanwhile, back at his family home, life is similarly uneventful: Mohamad’s wife passes the time sewing night and day, especially since the couple’s son left to join the army. As time passes, Mohamad mechanically continues to do his duty.
Set during a recent European revolution, when the students have just begun to rise, the film focuses on the unusual relationship between Dr. Pavenic and his housekeeper, Ana. In the midst of a night alive with the rattle of gunfire and burning buildings, the doctor tells the story of his obsession for his enigmatic housekeeper, to a dinner table of his guests. His shocking honesty eventually prompts each guest in turn, to disclose some inner corner of his own life.
Ferdinand Rieche was a policeman, but found the legal constraints of that profession too stifling. He gets into the business of protecting manufacturing plants and outfits and trains his men like a private army expecting an invasion. After his excesses prove too much for his bosses, he is fired, and Ferdinand takes his strong opinions back into public life.
Alex van Warmerdam’s award-winning second feature is set in a remote small Dutch village in the early 1960s. The village is actually just one street of a new town that was never completed, and the behavior of its inhabitants is invariably determined by their unsolved sexual problems, leading to a number of comic situations depicted in a tradition of absurdist black humor.

When Julius wanders off in the middle of filming, Frank hires and actor to play the character and begins a fictional version of his psychological portrait. Then, as suddenly as he vanished, Julius turns up in an institution where he and Peter must face their relationship.
After the death of his mother, middle-aged insurance employee inherits her small cottage surrounded by a garden. Selling the cottage which is situated on unexploited ground near the center of a big city makes him a rich man and he buys a big house in the countryside. He takes some time off and decides to throw a big garden party at the house and invite all his colleagues from the office. Aided by alcohol, the guests gradually lose all their inhibitions and reveal personality traits and frustrations that they normally keep hidden.
Composed entirely by literary quotations from many different sources and from several historical periods, Godard’s film works as an allegory on film. The loose narrative tells about a drifter found by a rich woman who soon falls in love with him. A drowning accident takes place and the drifter dies but some time later, he reappears in the woman’s life looking for a job. Or could it be the man’s twin brother?
This portmanteau film explores the highs and lows of a trio of twenty-something’s love affairs in the French capital, combining all those themes cherished by Rohmer aficionados: seduction, elegant language, and love for a city called Paris.
