In this surreal comic confection, a traditional naniwa-bushi singer moves to Prohibition-era San Francisco. He goes in search of Al Capone, whom he mistakenly believes is president, hoping to impress the gangster with his singing and to popularize the art form in the States.

Saw this in 35mm as part of the massive Suzuki retrospective that toured a few years ago. It stunned me, as did A STORY OF SORROW AND SADNESS and KAGERO-ZA. He was truly one of the greatest filmmakers to ever live
Everyone should watch this just to see what will never be allowed in films in the future, how stale and PC modern films have become in comparison, and an excellent sound track as a bonus.
