——UPGRADED——

In the summer of 1939, 13-year-old Marie goes with her parents to visit her grandmother in a small town near Avignon. Although rumors of war reach the countryside, it’s an idyllic place, and Marie’s parents are constantly making love. Surrounded by sexual frankness, Marie fancies herself a woman and develops a crush on Alexander, the town’s young Jewish doctor but is despondent when he treats her like a child…

Another Jeanne Moreau surprise. A step-up for me from the interesting LUMIERE and of course here we have the great, always welcome Simone Signoret. Thank you very much for this, Jon.

Bravo ! Completely unavailable for the longest time, then more recently only in a pallid, low-res B&W rip of some sort. This looks to be of much better quality.

A very nice film. I especially enjoyed the setting. Nice beautiful countryside, and a farming community. There were happily moments, and also sad moments. It was so true to life’s up and downs. Such a good movie.
