As in the novel of the same title from Camilo Jose Cela, “La Colmena” is a sad composition with the stories of many people in the Madrid of 1942, just the postwar of the Spanish civil war. The main theme of the film is the contrast between the poets, surviving close to misery under the Franco’s regime, and the winners of the war, the emerging class of the people that makes easy money with illegal business.
A chance meeting reunites Lise and Antoine, ex-lovers who had a brief fling 20 years before. Notre-Dame Cathedral is the support of an ecstatic vision: the convulsions of the camera and the frenzy of the editing, accompanied by loops of liturgical and noisy music, dematerialize the monument, transforming it into flashes of colour, lines and fleeting forms.
When recently retired train operator Wladyslaw Orzechowski is struck and killed by a train, railroad investigators interview those who worked with him to determine whether the death was accidental — or perhaps murder. The investigators learn immediately that Orzechowski was disliked by both his younger coworkers, whom he bullied, and the management, whom he despised. But as the investigation continues, other surprising and unexpected sides of Orzechowski come to light.

Lastly, Hung was dumped by her boyfriend Daviv because the thought of her working at the mortuary doesn’t appeal to him. When Hung does the unthinkable to escape the pain, Daviv finds himself facing retribution.
