Haru no mezame (1947) AKA Spring Awakens

Haru no mezame was Naruse’s third full-lenth post-war film — and a delightful surprise. It turns out to be a slice of life film, centered around a couple of years in the life of a rural high school girl — played by 16 year old Yoshiko Kuga — still a tiny bit plumpish — and not full grown. Almost no plot to speak of — just normal events of school and home life and hanging around with friends.

Note that while these new copies are HD the quality difference compared to the old hardsubbed mp4 I uploaded in 2017 isn’t as big as you’d imagine, while it is an HD scan it clearly hasn’t been restored, you will see many splices, the audio quality also isn’t very good but it’s still a bit better and without hardsubs of course for those who hate hardsubbed files.
