This is a remake of a terrific Machiko Kyo film called “Odd Obsession”.
It isn’t, it is from a book called The Key by Jun’ichiro Tanizaki.
There are several adaptations of this book, Odd Obsession is the earliest.
First version was called ODD OBSESSION, in 1959, by the great and underrated Kon Ichikawa. There was also a sordid version by Tinto Brass I never made it past an half hour of. Looking forward to this version.
Perhaps because the Tinto Brass version is so incredibly bad!
The Brass version must not be overlooked. When you have Morricone on board,
and Stephania Sandrelli stealing our hearts not all is lost!
