A television adaptation of Eugene O’Neil’s classic American drama of love, revenge, murder and suicide. Set against the backdrop of a small New England town, it is a post-Civil War saga of a fictionalized family in a sometimes idealized, other times reflected version of O’Neill’s own life and family.
Director: Nick Havinga.
Writers: Eugene O’Neill (play), Kenneth Cavander.
Stars: Roberta Maxwell, Deborah Offner, Peter Weller, Roberts Blossom, Joan Hackett, Bruce Davison, Jeffrey DeMunn, Thomas Hill, Tom Aldredge, Richard Russell Ramos, Josef Sommer.
I’ve been wanting to see this for years. The odd 1947 attempt with Rosalind Russell is earnest and well intended but is ultimately one hot mess. It’s running time was cut exactly in half with each of it’s leads acting in idiosyncratic styles which never truly intersect or mesh. Thanks, Jon.
wonderful, wonderful, wonderful
I was very curious to see this PBS production as I now live in what was depicted as the Mannon House. Thank you so much for making it available.
Where is the Greek Revival house used as the Mannon home, located?
I loved this series- kudos for costumes by Zach Brown
