Charlie is a black New York lawyer who is falsely accused of a crime in a Texas town. Escaping from his tormentors, Charlie takes refuge in a farmhouse. Here he meets unmarried, pregnant Marlene Chambers. Hostile towards each other at first, Charlie and Marlene become friends.

    I remember when this movie was released….my whole family watched it together. Excellent film and acting.

    Like the above comment, I saw this movie when it came out as a junior in high school. This is the first I’ve watched it since then. It really stayed with me for the for the past 51 years. The only thing I didn’t remember was the ending. I’m glad I didn’t. Now I know why it was always in the back of my mind. This was a great movie, made for TV or not.
