Dr. Ernest Tindal kills his wife and plants clues pointing to her lover, Frank Marsh. Vera, Frank’s sister, enlists the aid or reporter Russell Kirk in proving the innocence of her brother. Detective McKinley thinks that gangster Jack Reed is involved and shoots Reed when he attempts to escape. Reed gets away but goes to Dr. Tindal for treatment of his wound and Tindal kills him on the operating table. Kirk has uncovered some new evidence and confronts Tindal with it.
A singer marries a famous composer, and after a while she gets the itch to go back on the stage. However, her husband won’t let her. When she hears that a popular French singer named “Raquel” is coming to New York, she decides to go to Raquel with a plan–unbeknownst to her husband, “Raquel” is actually her sister, and her plan is for them to switch places so she can fulfill her dream of going back on the stage. However, things don’t go quite as planned.
A young girl’s parents are killed on a tropical island, and the girl is raised and protected by the jungle animals. When she is found, as a grown woman, she is taken back to the United States to claim her inheritance. There are several people, with vested interests, who stand to gain something if she is shown not to be the missing heir.
Delia Peletier has been paid to have a child for a wealthy man who wants an heir. She has the baby and turns it over to her “employer,” but subsequently decides she wants the child back. She hires three men to kidnap the child. The quartet hides out in the house of Bernard Lapin, a nuclear scientist they believe to be away on business. Lapin returns, however, and becomes romantically involved with Delia.
Good-natured gambler Marty Black falls into ownership of a booking joint but soon falls on hard times. His one out is a marker for half-ownership in a young thoroughbred, which he quickly calls in. He discovers the other owner to be a young woman from an old horseracing family who wants to protect her colt almost as much as Marty wants to rush him into big races for a fast buck. While they clash, Marty soon comes to understand the human bond with the horses and what it means to be a thoroughbred.
Gangsters free one of their colleagues being escorted to prison and kill several FBI agents and local police officers in the attempt. FBI agent Melvin Purvis puts together a special squad to track down and capture the men responsible.

Her suitor Brom Bones, the blacksmith, wants to scare him away and dresses up as the legendary Headless Horseman.
Semi-successful lawyer John Malone is intrigued by local night club singer Anna Marie St. Clair. After meeting her at the club, he is present when her boss (and more?) is killed, and she is arrested for the crime. Sentenced to death, Malone and his faithful secretary set out to find the real murderer, who is probably also responsible for a protection racket Malone is investigating.
