In a future United States, the only transport available to an individual is public transportation. Predicated on an assertion that “the oil has run out”, an increasingly totalitarian central government has ordered all personal vehicles be impounded by law. One man, a former race car driver, yearns again for his ability to choose his own roads and destiny. He reassembles his race car hidden from confiscation, and sets out for “Free California” which has broken away from the new regime, aided by a young technically savvy teen who feels alienated from this “social” society.
A group of neighborhood teenagers discover some suspicious goings-on near a naval base in San Diego, and suspect that a foreign espionage ring is at work trying to find out military secrets.
1985, Alexandria. A group of Palestinian terrorists of the PLO embarks on the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro with the purpose of reaching Haifa and perform a suicide mission against Israel. However, when they’re found out during the trip, they decide to hijack the ship and take all passengers in hostage: Among them are Mr. Leon Klinghoffer, a disabled Jewish-American, and his wife Mrs Marilyn Klinghoffer. Given the situation, the terrorists change their purposes, asking for the liberation of almost 50 other Palestinian terrorists detained in Israel, but both Egypt and Israel refuse to negotiate.
A playboy golf pro down is on his luck. Kicked off the circuit for alleged cheating he is forced to hustle for a living. Moving from one Country Club to another, he uses his talents to hustle golf and women while trying to stay one step ahead of an irate loan shark.
The film depicts teenagers throughout the world in revolt against society. In sequences filmed in the United States, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Italy, and Japan, the teenagers are shown to share a belief that no restrictions should be placed on their actions or their thoughts. The picture concentrates on sexual freedom, the drug problem, birth control, fashion, and rock music. The scenes include American youth using marijuana and LSD, teenagers engaging in sex, and a discussion of campus morals with a college student.

Graduate student Harry Bailey was once one of the most visible undergraduate activists on campus, but now that he’s back studying for his master’s, he’s trying to fly right. Trouble is, the campus is exploding with various student movements, and Harry’s girlfriend, Jan, is caught up in most of them. As Harry gets closer to finishing his degree, he finds his iconoclastic attitude increasingly aligned with the students rather than the faculty.
