In 1954, the Indochina War begins to come to a close following France’s defeat by the Viet Minh at the deadly Battle of Dîen Bîen Phû. French forces are in full retreat and risk being overrun at every turn — including the 317th Platoon, a unit of French soldiers and Laotian allies who are led by the idealistic but inexperienced sous-lieutenant Torrens and adjutant Willsdorf, a former soldier in the German Wehrmacht during WWII. Their survival depends on completing a trek through the dense, jungle-laden, expanse of enemy territory that stands between them and the safety of the nearest French outpost.
Reporter Goncalves exposes the developing hypocrisy of a new state rising out of the ruins of WW III amidst the desolation of the Brazilian countryside. From the remains come Rocha and mother de Alencar in search of food. To get it, they pose as peasant Indians who, in the new society, are now the privileged minority.
In the late 1800’s, an army captain tries to tame the open plains of Argentina which are dominated by Indians and bandits. To help do this, the captain brings in a party of women to keep his soldiers happy.
Produced by the Municipality of Copenhagen and the Port of Copenhagen Authority the film draws with self-irony a frank and informal picture of the Danish capital, laying stress on the poetry to be found in the picturesque details of ordinary everyday life in the streets, the harbour, the social institutions, the amusement parks etc.
Tula, a thirty one year old unmarried woman, whose sister has just died, decides to bring her brother in law, a bank employee and his two children into her home. As she takes over the management of their lives, she gradually usurps the privileges of her brother in law, and his children. She acts as a wife mother figure, but does not accept the sexual commitments or maternal responsibilities of her new role.
