On December 30, 1931 a 17-year-old daughter of engineer Henryk Zaremba is murdered. Rita Gorgonowa, a housekeeper, nanny of Zaremba\’s children, and his lover is accused of the murder. It was the most sensational murder of those times, followed with interest by the general public in Poland. The film is a reconstruction of the events, in particular of the trial itself. Majewski\’s picture raises the issues related to the functioning of the judiciary system, stressing the fundamental principle of law that in order to sentence an accused person indisputable evidence of guilt is required.

Three teachers are on their way to a Dodgers game in Los Angeles but are forced to pull off to a gas station on the side of the road after their car gives them trouble. When they don’t find the owner of the gas station, the three are startled by seeing a young man Charlie, holding a gun along with his girlfriend Judy. Later, Freud develops a relationship with nurse Martha Bernays, who is not shy about her feelings for the renowned thinker.

The film’s deliberation on changes in Taiwanese society and family, its mood of contemplation and reflection, went well beyond the melancholic tone of traditional Taiwanese films about women.
