My Survival As An Aboriginal rocked Australia and the world with its presentation of atrocities and hardships committed against Aboriginal people. The movie delves beneath surface appearances to reveal a strong resistance to assimilation and loss of identity, as the late Essie Coffey, a Murrawarri woman, takes us into the Aboriginal struggle for survival. She documents the effect of dispossession, the chronic depression, alcoholism, deaths in custody and poverty that were so much a part of life for Aboriginal people.

I would love for this movie to reach other countries. English subtitles would be very helpful for people like me who are not from here. Additionally, it would be amazing to have subtitles in French, Spanish, German, etc. I’m sure many people from other countries are interested in First Nations Australian culture, and there isn’t much information available about these incredible people. I’ve only been in this country for two months, and I realize how ignorant I am about all this. Thank you so much for sharing this movie, and please let me know if there are more platforms to learn from.
