Outstanding stuff you’ve been putting up, Jon!!!!! Big cheers!
Beautiful film. Thanks for uploading Jon!
I recorded this film on video from when it was aired on Channel 4. It gave me a love of folklore, myth and folk music that has lasted almost 40yrs. I lost all my old tapes about 15yrs ago. At the time I am sure I read online that the original recording had been lost and so I thought I’d never get to see this film again. I can’t believe every scene and word is exactly as I recall. This film is quite possibly the most important film I ever saw. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks a lot for downlowding this wonderful mystic film about small villages , prejudices and mystic tellings!!! I am glad to find this wonderful at rarefilmm.com, becauce it doesn´ t exist a DVD . I saw this film formertimes at the Leeds Filmfestival in the nineties. Thanks a lot Jon!!!
Kudos for uploading this. Modern Ireland has forgotten this film and it needs to be preserved.
Been looking for this for a few years having seen it on channel 40 or so years ago. Still a classic film. At the time i saw the film ilived in London and didn’t know that i would one day settle in Ireland… After 20 years here and a naturalised Irish citezen the film means so much more than it fid back then. Thanks for uploading and sharing?
I saw this on RTE when it first came out and have looked forward to seeing it again. Now I have and I did BUT the Channel 4 edit seems to have rejigged the ending and removed the gut punch from the original. I guess it was for those that require an ‘ending’, personally I prefer the question mark that hangs for a few days after viewing. Still a hauntingly good film.
I saw this on Channel 4, around 1982 I think and was blown away by it. Searched for it over the years, and had heard that it was lost, so I am delighted to see it available again. This haunting film really stuck with me over the years.
I have been intrigiued by this film for 40 years…I am aware that is is fictional..however there comes across that the writer has his own beliefs/visions of what may lie ahead for those who ‘want to know’..as Mary Ryan said in the film. I feel sure some members of the cast must have talked/questioned the writer re: the story..the journey of the film albeit fictional. It’s a facinating film…just watched it again for second time after forty years…still grabs me.
Thank you to the person who made this film available to me
