The chauvinist Alexandre balances relationships with several women, including the maternal Marie and the sexually liberated Veronika, in the post-1968 intellectual scene of Paris.
Director: Jean Eustache. AKA The Mother and the Whore
Stars: Jean-Pierre Léaud, Françoise Lebrun, Bernadette Lafont, Isabelle Weingarten, Jacques Renard, Jean-Noël Picq.
I have been a Jean Eustache’s fan for awhile. Thanks for this one
Amazing film. Couldn’t find anywhere else. So glad it was here.
Probably one of the first films to namecheck Zarah Leander.
Hard to figure this one out. Famous movie. It starts out like the usual charming pointless French drollery, endless cafe conversations, etc. But as the move grinds on it becomes less and less appealing and all the suicide talk gets under your skin, until it almost appears to be a horror film you’re watching.
Will watch it again. So much to absorb.
A valuable addition.
