I don’t think this is an Oscar nominee. The Academy database lists The Concert as an American film directed and produced by Ezra Baker.

    Hi Jon.

My wife says I’m like a dog with a bone, not to mention anal-retentive and other choice adjectives.

So I contacted AMPAS for a clarification and surprise! they answered within a few hours. Here is the response:

“Thank you for your message. In regards to your inquiry these are the following notes I found on this title in our records:

Per notes on our system on this title:

“Country of origin United Kingdom in AA database. IMDb has as Hungary-US production, directed by Istvan Szabo. There is no connection between the short film KONCERT (1962), directed by Szabo, and the nominated short film directed by Ezra Baker.”

Thanks for the research, Bernard, that is very interesting, I guess IMDb is wrong which doesn’t surprise me, they should fix it.
I have removed the Oscar nominee note from the post.

      Best,
      Jon.

“There is no connection between the short film Koncert (1962), directed by Szabo, and the nominated short film directed by Ezra Baker.” Hmmm. All the references I’ve seen to Ezra Baker list him as the producer of the Oscar nominated “Koncert” directed by Mr. Szabo. The only other Ezra Baker I’ve found was listed at Wikipedia as a member of the House from New Jersey in the early 19th century. “Koncert” was a student film so I can’t help but wonder whether or not Szabo needed a “producer,” nominal or otherwise, to qualify the film for Oscar consideration. Anyway, if someone can find a “Koncert” directed by Ezra Baker, I’d sure be interested in seeing it.
