Fantastic. Outstanding, thoughtful work, Jon.
Well done Jon on this marvellous film. Must for all
I remember when this came out and it played at a porn film venue as did some of Ingmar Bergman’s more adult themed work (THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY, THE SILENCE, PERSONA etc); skin flix all day long and Arthouse fare from 5:00pm-9:00pm immediately followed by porn all night all over again. Such was much of 1950s- mid 1960s urban America and its view of mature themed cinema. Antonioni’s BLOWUP (1966) was the first film here to move from a porn venue to a specially designated art movie house. It had become such a big hit, that relegating exclusively to the seedy part of town, got in the way of extracting Big Buck$. What a strange culture to risk being shamed for being interested in something of psychological complexity! (But, maybe we’re just more sophisticated in alienating those interested in depth) LOL! This is quite an exceptional film and I’m so happy I’ve finally gotten to see it. Difficult material that has been extremely well-presented and handled. Thanks, Jon.
thankyou Jon. Great film, exceptional performances all round.
