Albin Skoda plays Hitler, who wanders in and out of delirium as his Third Reich crumbles. He is surrounded by reams of existential dialogue from his generals and associates, courtesy of screenwriter Erich Maria Remarque, who based his script on Judge Michael A. Musmanno’s book “Ten Days to Die”. Oscar Werner costars as a fictional “good” Nazi officer who acts as the film’s voice of reason.
Director: Georg Wilhelm Pabst.
Stars: Albin Skoda, Oskar Werner, Lotte Tobisch, Willy Krause, Erich Stuckmann, Erland Erlandsen, Curt Eilers, Leopold Hainisch, Otto Schmöle, Herbert Herbe, Hannes Schiel, Erik Frey, Otto Wögerer. AKA The Last Ten Days
one of many Pabst’s best film. Left an impact on me.
I saw this in the mid 1950s in the only theatre in Christchurch New Zealand that showed foreign language films. I could not wait for the library to open the following morning to get Trevor-Roper’s The Last Days of Hitler out and learn more. I spent years looking out for this movie. I understand there was some discussion over the flooding of tdhe subways – whether or not it happened.
Missed you so much. I am so happy for you to be back. Absolutely fantastic site.
Very good movie, much much better than the previous one (It Happened on 20 July). Hitler’s madness is very well played and filmed.
