Tornatore has a very particular way of portraying his country, and, luckily for us, portraying all the contradictions in the world in which we live.
The movie took insipiration from a great journalist’s story, Giuseppe Marazzo, intitle “Il camorrista”.Often he had dealt with organize crime investigation and his articles led him to be threatned and harassed by many mob members. The book tols the story of the inglorious mobster Raffaele Cutolo, founder of the “new camorra” which is the mafia operating in Napoli area. He died in prison in 2021,when he was serving multiple life sentences.
