Remake of Jules et Jim following the experiences over a decade of two friends who fall in love with the same woman, enjoyably satirising the 70’s through the search by the three protagonists for their identities and making sharp attacks on cultural signposts of the decade along the way. The film also studies relationships, what its director calls “wanting something permanent yet wanting to be free”.
A young woman teaches herself to become a sharpshooter so she can hunt down the three men who murdered her parents. She finds a sheriff who is willing to help her track them down.
“Lightnin'” Bill Jones and Mrs. Jones are co-owners of a hotel built right on the borderline between California and Nevada, used as the temporary home of divorcing wives so that they may pretend to be in the “California” half of the hotel while establishing residency in the “Nevada” half. Lightnin’ befriends lawyer John Marvin at present residing in the California half to avoid arrest on a trumped-charge. When Lightnin’ refuses to sell his share of the hotel to a gang of stock crooks headed by Raymond Thomas, Mary is coerced into divorcing her husband so that she can sign over the deed herself.
Huckleberry Finn, a rambunctious boy adventurer chafing under the bonds of civilization, escapes his humdrum world and his selfish, plotting father by sailing a raft down the Mississippi River. Accompanying him is Jim, a slave running away from being sold. Together the two strike a bond of friendship that takes them through harrowing events and thrilling adventures.
Tim McIntire plays a white settler who weds Indian woman Serene Hedlin. The couple is ostracized by the white and Indian community alike, and are forced to pull up stakes. En route to their new home, the pregnant Serene suddenly gives birth. Unfortunately, the couple’s child is born on sacred burial ground, making their already precarious place in society all the more shaky.
A young tomboy and her prim grandmother quickly forget the disappointment of their first meeting and become friends.
