When recently retired train operator Wladyslaw Orzechowski is struck and killed by a train, railroad investigators interview those who worked with him to determine whether the death was accidental — or perhaps murder. The investigators learn immediately that Orzechowski was disliked by both his younger coworkers, whom he bullied, and the management, whom he despised. But as the investigation continues, other surprising and unexpected sides of Orzechowski come to light.

They start blaming themselves, believing that their tragedies are God’s way of punishing them for voting the Socialists.
