Dr. Tom O’Hara takes over a public clinic in New York’s desperately poor Bowery section. Boy gangleader Sock Dolan resents Tom’s interference in moving Sock’s kid brother to a hospital, because Sock blames hospitals for his mother’s death. Sock helps racketeer J.R. Mason sell food to the clinic, unaware that Mason sells cheap and often tainted food. When a number of patients, including Sock’s brother, become ill from food poisoning, Sock is kidnapped by Mason to keep him silent. Dr. O’Hara must find a way to rescue Sock and stop Mason’s contamination of hospital food supplies.

Vera thinks she’s witnessed a man decapitating his wife. Actually, she’s only seen magician Bluebeard the Great rehearsing his act. Still convinced that the magician is a killer, Vera goes through all sorts of comic agony when she is forced to share the same train compartment with Bluebeard (who doesn’t help matters when he offers her a sandwich consisting of “scrambled brains and tongue”).
Before he was killed by Mark Foster’s men, Bud Lawton willed part ownership in his ranch to Hoppy and his two pals. When the three arrive they find a fake posing as Lawton. When they expose the imposter, Foster gets the Sheriff to jail them for Lawton’s murder.
In this comedy of mistaken identity, a bookish literary reviewer bows to the desires of his lover and shaves off his whiskers. Suddenly he finds himself in trouble, for without the mustache, he is the spitting image of a gangster who has just been released from prison. When the mobster’s gang sees the reviewer, they immediately assume he is the boss and they take him away. Soon he finds himself in deep trouble.
Widowed mother Charlotte Lord would like to marry wealthy Guy Barton, but Bartons’ avaricious ex-wife Sybil insists upon contesting their recent Mexican divorce. Charlotte’s daughters Jane, Leni and Marilyn conspire to put Sybil out of the way by pairing her off with Steve Nelson, gilding the lily by convincing Nelson to pose as Argentine cattle baron Don Pablo Viscente. The ruse almost works, but then the real Don Pablo shows up. Undaunted, the Lord girls concoct a variety of additional schemes to smooth the path of romance for their mother and the eligible Mr. Barton.

Sir James Collison, director of National Art Museum in London, is determined to safeguard the priceless painting.
