In 1915, Captain Liers, commander of a submarine is leaving his hometown, where he, his 2nd officer and the radio-operator, spend their shore leave. On patrol they sink a British armored cruiser, but while returning to their harbor, they’re attacked. They’re able to sink it, but the trap has alarmed a destroyer, that sinks their sub. The sub lays on the sea bed at 200 feet, and except for the bridge, it is full of water. 10 members of the crew survived, but there are only 8 rescue devices.
A married couple looking for an apartment move in with the husband’s co-worker, a widower. The husband becomes jealous of the widower and his wife.

Tula, a thirty one year old unmarried woman, whose sister has just died, decides to bring her brother in law, a bank employee and his two children into her home. As she takes over the management of their lives, she gradually usurps the privileges of her brother in law, and his children. She acts as a wife mother figure, but does not accept the sexual commitments or maternal responsibilities of her new role.
Patman is a sly, slightly deranged Irish orderly on a hospital psychiatric ward. He is a favourite with the patients but his rebellious streak creates friction between him and the hospital staff. But it becomes apparent that Patman himself is suffering from delusions and paranoia.
Count Ubaldo desires to make an unfavorable alliance with the Spanish armies. When Riccardo refuses to go along with the plans, he is ambushed in the forest and left for dead. However, he returns with a vengeance, organizes a band of marauders, and begins to pick away at Ubaldo’s forces. But Ubaldo kidnaps Laura, and Riccardo must storm the castle to free her.
