Thank you Jon for this rare delight. People interested in so-called ancient styles of film acting should definitely see this treasure as a classic example of early 20th century acting called the technical form. It is overly heavy-handed and precious by modern standards, but as created by the french actor, Francois Delsarte, it was the measuring stick for successful emoting on the boards or in early silent film. It was thought of as compensating for the lack of sound, but exaggerated pantomime & over-dramatic use of facial expressions, & human form are imbedded in early sound cinema (think John Gilbert. Bela Lugosi, Marie Dressler. the entire Barrymore clan). So many silent film stars used it and that would not change until a new breed of actor came to Hollywood with the coming of sound. A great example of film history.
