Such a great film here, Jon. Thank you for providing us with a window to see far better cinema than Hollywood now makes.
Enjoyed this, and grateful for the opportunity to see it. I’d welcome more Iranian films.
Before Carter there was Gheisar.
In 1971 Jack Carter returned home to avenge the death of his brother, but he was not the first one: already in 1969 Gheisar returned home to avenge the death of his sister and he did accomplish this task equally fierce and ruthless as Jack did shortly thereafter (the book JACK’S RETURN HOME was published in February 1970, so it is save to assume it was written 196/9).
I am sure Mike Hodges did not know of Gheisar, but nonetheless these coincidental similarigies are striking and tell us that blood is thicker than wine and avenging the death of a beloved family member is a task men have to deal with: a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.
