The Club de Femmes (Girl’s Club) of the title refers to a Parisian boarding house, populated in its entirety by beautiful, unwed damsels. The rules of the club are quite strict, with chaperones making certain that the ladies keep a safe and respectable distance between themselves and their gentleman callers. But the mischievous Claire is determined to enjoy a rendezvous with her sweetheart Robert, and to that end she talks him into disguising himself as a woman.

League of Frightened Men was the second and last entry in Columbia’s short-lived mystery series based on the “Nero Wolfe” novels by Rex Stout. Taking over from Edward Arnold as crabby, corpulent consulting detective Nero Wolfe is Walter Connolly, who despite his physical resemblance to the Stout original is not all that well suited for the role. Sitting in his greenhouse surrounded by his beloved orchids, Wolfe agrees to investigate a series of murders seemingly tied in with a long-ago Harvard hazing prank that went tragically awry.
A painter working at the Louvre is struck by the Mona Lisa. When he meets a girl who he thinks resembles the painting and she wants him to become famous he has the idea of robbing the painting. Based on the 1911 real robbery.
Due to a clerical error, Harold, a bumbling small-town chap with Hollywood dreams, is invited to a film audition in Los Angeles. His screen test is a disaster, but he’s hired as a film extra. He begins a romance with actress Mary, not recognizing her as the “Spanish Lady,” the heavily-costumed female lead in the movie he’s in. On set, Mary uses her sultry alter ego to toy with Harold, who becomes so flustered that he blunders his way to comic stardom.
In this romance, a lovely young debutante falls in love with a jazz violinist. Her mother wants her to marry a wealthy young man, but the strong-willed girl initially demurs until the night of her debut. Her social adviser fills the debutante’s dance card with partners, which inflames the violinist.
A cop pretends to be a crook in order to catch a gang of outlaws. The bad guys run a night club as a front. The cop’s sister helps him by singing there; otherwise, she’s busy making love to a military cadet.
