On a Saturday night, in a small 1950s Californian town, a young man, whose parents are an inch from a divorce, takes his brand new pink Cadillac for a spin to meet girls. He hooks up with the daughter of the town’s radical preacher.
The film follows author Romain Gary as he recalls his growing up with his Russian-born mother. The two leave Russia for France, where they settle in Paris. As twenty years pass, they encounter social change, age, different convictions, poverty and the slow approach of World War II.
A man and his mistress have just taken off for a weekend romp when they’re kidnapped by a trio of bank robbers. They wind up becoming media “stars” as police and reporters follow them. They all wind up at the beat-up shack of a cranky old codger, with the police surrounding them and the robbers threatening to kill everybody.
The film takes place in the space of four days in the life of Bob Jones, a black man who is constantly plagued by the effects of racism. Living in a society that is drenched in race consciousness has no doubt taken a toll on the way Jones behaves, thinks, and feels, especially when, at the end of his story, he is accused of a brutal crime he did not commit.

The ravishing beauty of her youth has given way to middle-aged homeliness, so she secretly checks into a Swiss clinic and undergoes extensive plastic surgery. While waiting to surprise Mark with her restored face and body, Barbara meets Erich, a handsome bachelor, at a posh ski lodge and becomes entranced by his seductive charm.
Georgia, a black American singer, comes to Stockholm for a show. She meets an American deserter and soon they have fallen in love. But Georgia’s assistant Alberta tell her to stick to her own kind.

Cited by many as the most “personal” effort of Swedish filmmaker Arne Sucksdorff, The Great Adventure is also one of his few films to tie together its magnificent images with a dramatic narrative. “Adventure” means “life” to Sucksdorff, and that life is experienced by a group of Swedish farm children, two of whom are played by the director’s own sons. The kids save a wild otter from a hunter, then attempt to tame the animal. When spring comes, the children realize without remorse that the otter will be happier roaming free in the wilderness.
