I first watched this in the mid 80’s under the title Siege. I absolutely fell in love with the film. Very much like John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 but with much more grit and a sucker punch of an ending. I still have my old vhs tape of this. Even though I’ve long since owned a vcr I’ve always kept hold of it (I actually only own 2 vhs films now, the other being Exterminator 2).
I’m surprised Siege hasn’t undergone a proper dvd/bluray release yet. It really is a overlooked classic!
Trivia: The Japanese edit is 10mins longer. These scenes are all at the start of the film and are set in daylight hours (the film is set over one long night). Even though these scenes are interesting they don’t really add anything extra to the plot. Personally I prefer the standard edit as it wastes no time piling on the atmosphere.
    Cheers!
