A group of children discover the new continent of the world, uninhabited by adults. Soon, many other children are joining them in that new paradise, leaving their parents and other adults baffled on all remaining continents.
Dog owner James Haggin buys “Big Red,” an Irish setter, for a large sum in hopes of making him a champion show dog. However, Big Red is unruly and does not take to being handled. At this point, Haggin meets Rene, an orphan boy who needs work, and makes him Big Red’s trainer. The two get along so well that Haggin fears the dog will not listen to anyone else. He tries to separate them, but the bond between Rene and Big Red has become too strong.
The film focuses on a hound dog named Paco. Paco lives with some Mexican ranchers in Sonora, where he is employed as a hunting dog who hunts mountain lions. Mountain lions are a scourge against ranchers, but Paco has a hard problem focusing on his work. Instead, Paco keeps running off and chasing after harmless deer.
Neighbourhood children play a game: one of the kids dances in the centre of the circle while the others shower him or her with compliments. A little girl, Inga, who lives with her single mother, is friendly and honest. She usually receives a lot of compliments and is therefore considered a beauty. Everything changes when a new boy moves into the neighbourhood. Being rude, he does not fit in and soon earns himself the nickname Mute. He does not like Inga’s freckles and calls her ugly. Mute’s words hurt Inga deeply and she sets out to look for attraction.
In this melodrama a mother tries to compensate for her feelings of inadequacy and failure as a parent to her own children by taking in a troubled foster child. As she struggles to make up for her past mistakes, her jealous daughters mistreat the girl.
