Note: Found this pretty good copy on the Youtube channel “Argentine Cinema with English Subtitles” subtitles were heavily re-worked by me, fixing some formatting mistakes, lines that were too long, etc. I highly recommend you guys to check out this YT channel, you can find plenty more Argentine gems and most of them have English subtitles, whoever is behind this channel is doing God’s work really to be subbing so many rare films from scratch, simply amazing, make sure to check it out.

It starts out pretty good, but gets formulaic after the first half hour = once our “hero” is in prison. Not bad, but mainly for completist viewers = fans wanting to see each and every noir. 6/10 in my opinion.

Freely re-made and expanded to 3 hours in 2023, as “Los Delicuentes.” Fregonese did it better.

Bonus: Mrs. Hugo Fregonese, well known to all lovers of film noir, makes a cameo appearance!

Thank you for the re-working. Before this film, visited the YouTube channel and randomly saw “Buenos Aires”, the 1958 short film by David José Kohon. Once again, Argentina has so many parallels with my country.

Meanwhile, something that might seem irrelevant, but perhaps not, because of the Argentina connection. Recently, I wondered what Scalisto was doing these days, googled and chanced upon your note on X. I dare not consider myself a friend of his, but he was is a dear friend to me –a sentiment shared by others, I guess.
For the labour of love: Thanks to Scalisto. Thanks to you.

Glad you enjoyed it, cb! 🙂 And that channel is really great, last year or the year before I don’t remember now there was a massive removal of Argentinian films on Youtube because of a particular studio that wasn’t happy with those films being available for free, I’m glad this one didn’t get taken down as well because all of the other ones are gone now and it seems like people aren’t reuploading them, very sad, dealing with the copyright police is the worst.

And about scalisto he was a wonderful person, a friend of the people, very generous and kind, I didn’t know him either, never got to talk to him unfortunately but he is truly missed, I hope he won’t be forgotten, at least I won’t forget him, in a way I feel like I’m continuing where he left off, always putting cinema in a high place 🙂

Thanks a lot for the support! <3

      All the best,
      Jon.
