Requests

Hey guys,

Feel free to post below in the comments which movies you would like me to upload.

Remember the rules are still the same as in the old site:

  1. No Region 1 DVD/Bluray available to purchase online.
  2. Movie was released before the year 2001.
  3. Foreign films applies same rules, if the movie was released on DVD/Bluray but only in country of origin make sure it’s region locked, some studios release them with region 0 and include subtitles, in that case I will not upload them.
  4. NEW Please make sure the film you request isn’t already available on Youtube, it takes a lot of time to look for each film and to see that it’s already up on YT it’s just a waste of time, please make sure to check before requesting it.

Please do not post more than 2 movies at the time and wait for my confirmation to see if I have them not, if I don’t have them then you can post again. Priority will be given to the first movie you request, the second one in case I have it will be uploaded later on. No more than 2 requests per person per month. Each movie requested will be uploaded within 2 weeks (usually takes less).

Thanks!

PLEASE AVOID POSTING VEEHD LINKS they make you download a plugin or some video player/software for your computer to watch the movies on their site, this can lead to people getting malware into their computers. Thanks.

Greetings, Jon! I know you said only 2 requests, but I have a short list, only because I genuinely don’t think subtitles are available for any of them, but was merely hoping that perhaps you, with your impressive tracking skills, might be able to find at least one: Einer von uns beiden (1974) – Les dernières vacances (1948) – Copie conforme (1947) – Pension Mimosas (1935) – Le petit criminel (1990) – Hold-Up (1985). Also, I saw a request for Temptation Harbor (1947) at the top, and I just wanted to let people know that that film DOES exist, it’s not lost. The BFI has a copy > https://player.bfi.org.uk/rentals/film/watch-temptation-harbour-1947-online < for online rental, but I'm not sure if it's available outside of the UK or if you, Jon, would somehow be able to extract it to post on Rarefilmm? It's a rare one! Anyways, thanks again for all you're doing. This place it fantastic!

      Hi JW.
Thank you very much for your comments, it makes me really happy when I see that people appreciate all the work I put into the site everyday. I’m very glad that you are enjoying the site, I’m trying to make it better everyday by finding the best and rarest content possible, it’s not easy but I try my best.
About your requests: I was only able to find ‘Les dernières vacances’ (1948) with eng. subtitles, I will upload it next week.
About ‘Temptation Harbour’ it is a very rare film and I think several people here want to see it, I’m not sure if that streaming service is available for those outside the UK, and for what I could read on forums and other sites it’s pretty much impossible to rip the content from that site because it’s encrypted and uses a “code” very difficult to crack, the only option is to record the screen with some type of recording software but results are often choppy and far from optimal. Hopefully a good quality copy surfaces at some point.

Whoa! Let me first join the masses in heaping praise on this website! Bloody terrific! I have searched long and far for a place like this that specializes in obscure films, but the ones I have come across are either sketchy or invitation-only, and getting an invitation to those places seems next to impossible, so to find this place is a real boon! And that you take requests and offer streaming is really terrific. !

Right now I’m looking for Mac (1992) w/ John Turturro and the Nobuhiro Suwa film M/Other (1999).

In 1990, Serge Gainsbourg directed a 67-minute film, “Stan the Flasher,” starring Claude Berri and Aurore Clement. About ten or fifteen years ago, it was shown on US television one time, on the Independent Film Channel, with English subtitles — but never again after that. I contacted the Channel but they said they have no plans to ever air it again. This is the only time it was ever shown with English subtitles, and there are no bootleg DVDs available online. I missed the showing and was never able to see the film. I am wondering if anybody was able to record it from IFC those many years ago. Even if it’s VHS quality, it would still be worth it; Maybe it could be uploaded to rarefilmm. Thanks!

Hi Jon, thanks for Die Wildente AKA The Wild Duck upload – it’s the best version of the play I’ve seen, it’s a real gem. Any chance you have The Iceman Cometh – the TV version from 1960 with Jason Robards, not the 1973 version with Lee Marvin? That would be top dollar. Thanks agin for TWD upload.

So here are a few more:
THE TEMPEST (1958), a Paramount/De Laurentiis production directed by Alberto Lattuada with Van Heflin and Silvana Mangano, isn’t available anywhere except a P/S Spanish DVD. Any chance you can get the widescreen original?
THE MAN WHO WAGGED HIS TAIL (1958) or UN ANGELO E SCESO A BROOKLYN or
UN ANGEL PASO POR BROOKLYN. with Peter Ustinov. This Italo-Spanish production directed by ladislao Vajda hasn’t been seen since.

    Hello Jon,

Your site has really improved my life and I can’t thank you enough for it.

You already have that Holy Grail ‘Renaldo & Clara’ on your Wanted list and have already uploaded ‘The Last Movie’, another elusive picture that’s eluded me down the years, but there are still so many so I’ll add two that come to my mind…

The first is ‘Gangway’ (1937), starring the wonderful Jessie Mathews. This was once on YouTube but vanished before I could watch it. It’s not the rarest of her films but I’d love to see it after watching the clip of Jessie singing the title number (which remains on YouTube) time after time after time…

The second I will perhaps regret, as ‘Inchon’ (1981) is regarded as one of the worst films of all time. However, with that reputation, no VHS or DVD release and Sir Laurence Olivier in it, I consider it a must-see!

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you again for your invaluable site.

    Your friend,

    Barton Young

hi. i think i was here many years ago.
First of all i’d like to make a defence of Veehd. i have downloaded and streamed much from there. The people there are very nice, and i doubt that they have anything to do with the program you mention. i know the one you are talking about.
Here is the thing about Veehd now. It ain’t working ; you cannot download, or stream from it. it’s been an issue for a while.
    When it was working, as far as I’m aware, unregistered users could download, but trying to stream brought up a message about getting the program you refer to;
If you registered, then you shouldn’t see the ad for that program.
I have many request. hoping you will be able to help with some.

I had given up on seeing the return of this site. It is good to be wrong sometimes.

    I would like to request:

    “Nutty, Naughty Chateau” (1963)
    “L’Atlantide” (1992)

I am also trying to remember the name of a movie I watched on the old site. I think it was made in the 1970s, of Latin American origin – possibly Colombian, Peruvian or Argentinean. It was some kind of religious/political parable, very surreal, and featured classical music. I distinctly recall a scene set to a Strauss waltz with football players in an incongruous setting. I do not wish to see it again, but not knowing the name is driving me mad! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would love any or all of these Donald O’Connor/Peggy Ryan films from the mid-40s.

    What’s Cookin’? (1942)
When Johnny Comes Marching Home (1942)
    It Comes Up Love (1943)
    Mister Big (1943)
    Top Man (1943)
    The Merry Monahans (1944)
    Patrick the Great (1945)

I have been looking for these for ages, it would be fantastic if you could find any of them. There used to be some DVDs but they our not available but I believe these have been broadcast on TCM.

Hello John I’m new to your site but have to say very very impressive. So here’s a challenge: the “Britalian” release “A Tale of Five Cities” (1951) – Bonar Colleano/Gina Lollobrigida/Evar Bartok … the original 86-min UK release please, not the butchered 82-min one that seems the only one generally available and which appears sometimes on TV courtesy of those very nice ladies and gentlemen at Talking Pictures. I heard a rumour that the Italian version is in fact a magnificent 95-mins. However; you’ll probably need to to the Italian Job to get your hands on that! Thanks and intrigued to get your thoughts…

    Thanks!

Stumbled on your revitalized site yesterday. What a welcome discovery! Immediately found (and watched) two items from my movie bucket list (“The Fighting O’Flynn” and “My Daughter Joy”). Here are two more that have eluded me for years:
    “The Gallant Blade”(1948-Larry Parks)
    “When a Girl’s Beautiful”(1947-Adele Jergens)
Hoping you might have access to them.
    Thanks

Thank you for your hard work. Amazing!

There are several films with the legendary Jean Gabin which still have never been subtitled into English… All of these titles are available on DVD (or VHS) in Europe, but do not have English subtitles:
    “Gloria” (1933)
    “Varietes” (1935)
    “Le Messager” (1938)
    “Pour l’amour du ciel” (1950)
“Tonnerre de Dieu” — there are DVD copies circulating, but only in very bad phonetic English (1965)
    “Pour un soir..” (1931)
    “Pour l’amour du ciel” (1950)
“La Sang a la Tete” (1952)– very bad phonetic English-subtitled version available online
“Coeurs joyeux” (1933) — I actually own a very good copy of this on a CD-ROM (but it doesn’t have any English subtitles)
“La Cas du docteur Laurent” (1956)
“Drapeau noir flotte sur la marmite” (1971)
    “Paris-Beguin” (1931)
    “Chacun sa Chance” (1930)
“Verdict” (1974) — Jean Gabin and Sophia Loren.

    Thank you!

Maybe there are some French-speaking rarefilmm fans who can help to subtitle some of them? (( can dare to dream!)

For subtitles I find the best site is:

      http://www.opensubtitles.org/ followed by https://subscene.com

If you can’t find subs in English (or your desired language) or you need to
resync, adjust or otherwise modify them, I use very good freeware:

      http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit

It will do automatic translations using Google which can range from quite good
to somewhat comical, but mostly you get the idea. To English, I find transations
from Portuguese, Spanish and Italian to be quite good. From Romanian not bad,
from French not so good (I think French is much more idiomatic). From Germanic
and Scandanavian not bad. In any case, you may not get the subtleties of the
original, but you will understand what’s going on.

If you are really desparate, there is a Python script which uses speech to text
libraries to create a subtitle file directly from the film, then uses
translation libraries (using Google) to translate them. (this part doesn’t work unless you register for a Google API key, so I use subtitleedit to do the translation as they recommend in the instructions below)
I’ve tried it and the results are reasonable. It drops some of the dialogue but it does handle a good part of it and will give you an idea of what’s going on. Sometimes the results are pretty good and other times not so much. But it is quick (about 5m) and easy, so give it a try. If the results stink you are no worse off.

Anything in particular you’re looking for? I could link a few, if you’re interested. Here’s King Kong colorized – https://ok.ru/video/798474898162 – the stop motion plays better in B&W.

“La Pupa del Gangster” (1975) with Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni has never been released with English subtitles… would love to see it one day.

Also “Rene la canne” with Sylvia Kristel and Gerard Dapardieu… it’s never been subtitled into English.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jon,

Thanks for locating THE THIRD VOICE and perhaps working on subtitles for UN ANGEL PASO POR BROOKLYN. Much appreciated.

Sidney Lumet’s first film, A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE (1960), is only available in a unwatchable truncated print. Any chance of getting the real thing?
    Also
LE RENDEZ VOUS DE MINUIT (Roger Leenhardt, 1962)
SECTION DES DISPARUS (Pierre Chenal, 1956)
    LES CANAILLES (Maurice Labro, 1960)
    LIBERTE SURVEILLEE (Vladimir Voltchek, 1958)
LE VENT SE LEVE (Yves Ciamnpi, 1959)

My mistake – A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE was NOT Lumet’s debut film, but it’s still worth it!
