Requests

Hey guys,

Feel free to write in the comments below which movies you would like me to upload.

Remember I can’t just upload any movie, there a few rules that need to be followed in order to “green light” a film, the rules are the following:

  1. No Region 1 DVD/Bluray is available to purchase online.
  2. Movie was released before the year 2004.
  3. Foreign films applies same rules, if the movie was released on DVD/Bluray but only in country of origin make sure it’s region locked, some studios release them with region 0 and include subtitles, in that case I will not upload them.
  4. Please make sure the film you want isn’t already available on Youtube, it takes me a lot of time to look and upload each film and to see that it’s already up on YT it ends up being a waste of time, please make sure to check before requesting it.

Only 1 request each person per month, for now I have to ask you guys to not request more than 1 film at a time, if I have time to upload more I will let you guys post again, I still have plenty of films pending to upload and I don’t want to have hundreds of movies on the queque to upload it just feels that I will never catch up and I’m always behind, once I have more free time I will raise it to 2 requests per month again.

Note: in order to keep this section as clean as possible and easy to navigate I will delete the comments after the movies are uploaded, for those films that I don’t have the comment will also be deleted but not before adding them to the list of wanted films.

Thanks.

Whoa! Let me first join the masses in heaping praise on this website! Bloody terrific! I have searched long and far for a place like this that specializes in obscure films, but the ones I have come across are either sketchy or invitation-only, and getting an invitation to those places seems next to impossible, so to find this place is a real boon! And that you take requests and offer streaming is really terrific. !

Right now I’m looking for Mac (1992) w/ John Turturro and the Nobuhiro Suwa film M/Other (1999).

    Cheers, mate

Thank you very much for your words, I really appreciate it.
After seeing those type of websites you mention I thought that we needed a site like that but free and easy to access for everyone, that’s why I started with rarefilmm 🙂

I have those two films that you want, I will be uploading them very soon.

      All the best,

hi. i think i was here many years ago.
First of all i’d like to make a defence of Veehd. i have downloaded and streamed much from there. The people there are very nice, and i doubt that they have anything to do with the program you mention. i know the one you are talking about.
Here is the thing about Veehd now. It ain’t working ; you cannot download, or stream from it. it’s been an issue for a while.
    When it was working, as far as I’m aware, unregistered users could download, but trying to stream brought up a message about getting the program you refer to;
If you registered, then you shouldn’t see the ad for that program.
I have many request. hoping you will be able to help with some.
    Here are two.
    The Adventurerers (1995)
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112772/

    cap canaille (1983)
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085290/

Query. Is there a cutoff year for requests?

Hello John I’m new to your site but have to say very very impressive. So here’s a challenge: the “Britalian” release “A Tale of Five Cities” (1951) – Bonar Colleano/Gina Lollobrigida/Evar Bartok … the original 86-min UK release please, not the butchered 82-min one that seems the only one generally available and which appears sometimes on TV courtesy of those very nice ladies and gentlemen at Talking Pictures. I heard a rumour that the Italian version is in fact a magnificent 95-mins. However; you’ll probably need to to the Italian Job to get your hands on that! Thanks and intrigued to get your thoughts…

Thank you for your hard work. Amazing!

There are several films with the legendary Jean Gabin which still have never been subtitled into English… All of these titles are available on DVD (or VHS) in Europe, but do not have English subtitles:
    “Gloria” (1933)
    “Varietes” (1935)
    “Le Messager” (1938)
    “Pour l’amour du ciel” (1950)
“Tonnerre de Dieu” — there are DVD copies circulating, but only in very bad phonetic English (1965)
    “Pour un soir..” (1931)
    “Pour l’amour du ciel” (1950)
“La Sang a la Tete” (1952)– very bad phonetic English-subtitled version available online
“Coeurs joyeux” (1933) — I actually own a very good copy of this on a CD-ROM (but it doesn’t have any English subtitles)
“La Cas du docteur Laurent” (1956)
“Drapeau noir flotte sur la marmite” (1971)
    “Paris-Beguin” (1931)
    “Chacun sa Chance” (1930)
“Verdict” (1974) — Jean Gabin and Sophia Loren.

    Thank you!

Maybe there are some French-speaking rarefilmm fans who can help to subtitle some of them? (( can dare to dream!)

For subtitles I find the best site is:

      http://www.opensubtitles.org/ followed by https://subscene.com

If you can’t find subs in English (or your desired language) or you need to
resync, adjust or otherwise modify them, I use very good freeware:

      http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit

It will do automatic translations using Google which can range from quite good
to somewhat comical, but mostly you get the idea. To English, I find transations
from Portuguese, Spanish and Italian to be quite good. From Romanian not bad,
from French not so good (I think French is much more idiomatic). From Germanic
and Scandanavian not bad. In any case, you may not get the subtleties of the
original, but you will understand what’s going on.

If you are really desparate, there is a Python script which uses speech to text
libraries to create a subtitle file directly from the film, then uses
translation libraries (using Google) to translate them. (this part doesn’t work unless you register for a Google API key, so I use subtitleedit to do the translation as they recommend in the instructions below)
I’ve tried it and the results are reasonable. It drops some of the dialogue but it does handle a good part of it and will give you an idea of what’s going on. Sometimes the results are pretty good and other times not so much. But it is quick (about 5m) and easy, so give it a try. If the results stink you are no worse off.

Thanks so much for the great site, I love all of the films by great directors which I never would have been able to see otherwise.

I’m not sure what makes something ineligible for being available for sale, I’d love to request Linton Semage’s “The Outcast”:
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0281025/?ref_=nm_knf_i2
There was briefly a Region 1 release years ago, but it’s long been out of print and unavailable, so I don’t know if that disqualifies it. I know that Camp de Thiaroye is on the site and it similarly had an OOP New Yorker release, so I wasn’t sure if this case was comparable.

Thanks so much for all your hard work!

    Hello Jon,
Firstly, thanks for your invaluable site.

So you managed Renaldo & Clara! Another that has totally eluded me for over 20 years is The Bell Jar, directed by Larry Peerce.

    Love from London,

Thank you for uploading my previous request (and the person who donated it to you). I asked if you had Lightnin’ (1930) a few months ago and you said yes. I’m not sure if it’s still in the pipeline or you forgot about it.

Sorry this isn’t so much a request but a question to Vlad,

How do you search for movies on ok.ru? I can’t seem to find a way to browse the choices on the site and see what is there. How do you do that?

Hi Rob. First, I assume you have created an OK.RU account. If so, there’s really nothing special I do. I search by video, always in “long duration” and for “the entire time”. Oh, sometimes it helps if you remove the films production date and search by title alone if you aren’t getting results. If that does not work, it might take some digging around. It also helps to find channels that upload movies and subscribe to them.

      Hope this helps.

Hi Jon! I am new to the site as I was looking for (and thanks to you, found) “Storia di Piera” with Hanna Schygulla and Isabelle Huppert. That got me thinking about another Isabelle Huppert film that I saw several years ago on cable called “Navodneniye” (1993) (AKA “The Flood” AKA “L’inondation”) directed by Igor Minaiev. I have searched high and low for it and can’t find it anywhere! I would love to watch it again and I think others on here would like it too.

I have a copy of ‘Roseland’, DVD is clearly out of print judging by the price, unless it’s a special edition when it’s over $30 means it’s OOP, I will upload it soon.

Jon: Thank you for amazing films!

I have always wanted to see a movie called “The Proper Time,” a United Artists release from 1961, but I think it has literally been out of circulation since 1961. It stars and is directed by Tom Laughlin, who made the “Billy jack” movies. (Stephanie Powers is in it, as well.)

A more realistic request might be Stanley Kramer’s “The Runner Stumbles” from 1979, which has never been on DVD.
