Requests

Hi guys,

Feel free to write in the comments below which movies you would like me to upload.

Remember I can’t just upload any movie, there a few rules that need to be followed in order to “green light” a film, the rules are the following:

  1. No Region 1 DVD/Bluray is available to purchase online.
  2. For British films make sure the film isn’t available on Region 2 DVD otherwise I cannot upload it.
  3. The movie was released before the year 2004.
  4. For foreign films applies same rules, if the movie was released on DVD/Bluray but only in country of origin make sure it’s region locked, some studios release them with region 0 and include subtitles, in that case I will not upload them.
  5. Please make sure the film you want isn’t already available on Youtube, it takes me a lot of time to look and upload each film and to see that it’s already up on YT it ends up being a waste of time so make sure to check before requesting it. Also, make sure the film isn’t listed on the WANTED films list, if it’s there it means I don’t have it.

Only 1 request each person per month. Actually, you can post 2 requests if you want but the second one will be used only as a backup in case I don’t have the first one. Please be patient and don’t post again if your request hasn’t been uploaded, uploading takes time, unless extraordinary circumstances each request will take between 25 to 45 days to be uploaded, this is due to the high volume of requests and pending work from previous months.

Note: in order to keep this section as clean as possible and easy to navigate I will delete the comments after your requests have been uploaded, for those films that I don’t have I will add them to the WANTED list.

Thanks.
Jon.

Hi Richard, hope you can read this message.
I’ve been trying to get an English friendly copy of this movie for a while with no luck, the only copy available that I can get has French embedded subtitles that can’t be removed, I’ve asked to a friend to see if he can help me and somehow hide those subtitles and add the English ones, stay tuned on the site.

      Best,

Thank you for your hard work. Amazing!

There are several films with the legendary Jean Gabin which still have never been subtitled into English… All of these titles are available on DVD (or VHS) in Europe, but do not have English subtitles:
    “Gloria” (1933)
    “Varietes” (1935)
    “Le Messager” (1938)
    “Pour l’amour du ciel” (1950)
“Tonnerre de Dieu” — there are DVD copies circulating, but only in very bad phonetic English (1965)
    “Pour un soir..” (1931)
    “Pour l’amour du ciel” (1950)
“La Sang a la Tete” (1952)– very bad phonetic English-subtitled version available online
“Coeurs joyeux” (1933) — I actually own a very good copy of this on a CD-ROM (but it doesn’t have any English subtitles)
“La Cas du docteur Laurent” (1956)
“Drapeau noir flotte sur la marmite” (1971)
    “Paris-Beguin” (1931)
    “Chacun sa Chance” (1930)
“Verdict” (1974) — Jean Gabin and Sophia Loren.

    Thank you!

Maybe there are some French-speaking rarefilmm fans who can help to subtitle some of them? (( can dare to dream!)

For subtitles I find the best site is:

      http://www.opensubtitles.org/ followed by https://subscene.com

If you can’t find subs in English (or your desired language) or you need to
resync, adjust or otherwise modify them, I use very good freeware:

      http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit

It will do automatic translations using Google which can range from quite good
to somewhat comical, but mostly you get the idea. To English, I find transations
from Portuguese, Spanish and Italian to be quite good. From Romanian not bad,
from French not so good (I think French is much more idiomatic). From Germanic
and Scandanavian not bad. In any case, you may not get the subtleties of the
original, but you will understand what’s going on.

If you are really desparate, there is a Python script which uses speech to text
libraries to create a subtitle file directly from the film, then uses
translation libraries (using Google) to translate them. (this part doesn’t work unless you register for a Google API key, so I use subtitleedit to do the translation as they recommend in the instructions below)
I’ve tried it and the results are reasonable. It drops some of the dialogue but it does handle a good part of it and will give you an idea of what’s going on. Sometimes the results are pretty good and other times not so much. But it is quick (about 5m) and easy, so give it a try. If the results stink you are no worse off.

Greetings. Back in the late 1970’s I saw this Brazilian Film in a theater in Mill Valley. The plot was that some evil developer was trying to buy all the real estate in this community to redevelop. The community revolted against this plan. I think boulders were rolled down the hill at cars? After they won the people partied; dancing in the streets. Any excuse, these people partied. After seeing this film, our friends and I would say, Let’s Bahia or party. Does anyone know the name of this masterpiece? or where I can find it with English subtitles?

For some reason I’ve retained the memory of a very positive review of a film called, (I think,) “Barnardo of the Mountains”, released sometime mid 1990’s. All I remember is that it was a partisan war drama so I’m guessing could be from Yugoslavia, Greece, Italy, etc.. Haven’t been able to find mention anywhere. Also just to reiterrate a request for “Les noces de papier” (The Paper Wedding) 1989 made for television Canadian film directed by Michel Brault with Genevieve Bujold. Thanks for all the wonderful work. Cheers.

    Hi Jon,

I’ve been searching for this Movie for over 30 years:

    https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0239479/

This Title aired frequently on a UHF station, in the Metro Detroit area, during the early/mid 80s. During a time-frame before my parents bought their first VCR. So unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to tape it on VHS.

It’s supposedly available on DVD in Japan. But, I’m not sure if that edition was dubbed into an Asian language, or if it has subtitles (of any language).

I’m looking for the original German Language Print: “Haschen in der Grube” (1969) and/or the Dubbed into English Version released in U. S. theatres under the title: “Run, Rabbit, Run” (circa 1973). Please don’t confuse what I’m looking for with an unrelated American Film entitled: “Rabbit Run” (1970), starring James Caan. I’m NOT searching for the latter.

    A Still from “my” Movie:

    https://www.google.ca/search?q=run+rabbit+run+1969&safe=active&client=safari&hl=en-ca&prmd=visn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiUttb3tfLgAhWFy4MKHYfpAKgQ_AUoAnoECA0QAg&biw=375&bih=549#imgrc=kExGhXG29_lRhM

Also, DIRTY WEEKEND aka MORDI E FUGGI (1973) starring Oliver Reed. Can’t seem to locate it anywhere either in English, or with English subs.

I have two films which I would like to have with subtitles if you can obtain them. I have both but without subtitles and I can provide you with the films, if necessary.
Proshchaniye s Peterburgom(Farewell to St Petersburg) 1972 by Yan Frid. A Soviet film about Johan Strauss made the same year as the US version of Strauss The Great Waltz.
Le pays sans étoiles 1946 by George Lacombe. This is an early film with Gérard Philipe but surprisingly no subtitles available as far as I know

I wonder if you could tell me the name of a movie. Years ago I only saw the last few minutes of the movie, but it ended with a woman being chased by this psycopath killer in a desert type area (outside of Los Angeles) in what was some kind of gas station or garage type location. The woman ran for her life outside into the desert area, and it ended with the killer falling into a pit of rattlesnakes and being bit to death. The movie ended with the woman walking away while an LA Dodgers baseball game was heard from a car that was in this garage type area.. To this day I can’t find this movie nor do I have any idea what it’s called, but it had to be made around 1961 give or take a couple of years, black and white. If you know the name, and could upload it, that would be phenomenal. Thanks.

Rare Filmm is by far the best movie site I’ve come across. I have a collection of VHS and DVD titles that numbers in the thousands including some rarities. One of my most sought after movies has eluded me, however. “The House of Bernada Alba” starring the incomparable Glenda Jackson was first shown, I think, as one of the “Great Performances” on PBS back in 1991. I know it was captured on VHS as there are a few copies in public libraries (none of which are near me) and there is, believe or not, a video on You Tube. Unfortunately this copy is horrid, obviously rendered from a VHS tape very poorly like your glasses are smeared with Vaseline . Is there a viewable copy out there?

Hi Jon. Thank you very much for all the wonderful films you are uploading, your site is amazing. I have a request about the size of the files when I download films from your site. Do the files have to be so large? Is it possible to have the option to download the films in a slightly lower video quality so that the files are not so large? I think in your old site, a few years ago, many of the files were considerably smaller, yet the video quality was not very different from the current one. Best wishes, a viewer from England

      Hi George.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it. I understand what you are saying, in some cases files might be a bit too large even though I resize them a bit from the original source, the original files are actually bigger in many cases, I try to make the best quality rips possible lowering size retaining as much detail as possible. I don’t have a lower quality versions for the movies but you can download the files from the streaming site (ok.ru), quality will be lower since these sites compress the videos but it shouldn’t be too bad, if you would like to try it you can use the following site https://9xbuddy.com/?lang=en and in the link field you need to enter the original url of each movie, to find that link go here https://ok.ru/video/c1564326 you will see all the movies available here and some that I haven’t posted yet, click on the movie you want to download and enter that link in the blank field, the link you need should look like this “https://ok.ru/video/1560939858598”. I will do copy and paste of all these links and I will include them in the movie posts here so you don’t have to go manually 1 by 1, it will take a couple of days but I’ll do it since it seems like a good idea and so people can have a second download option.

Edit: I forgot, once you enter the link in the 9xbuddy site click on “Download”, wait a few seconds and then scroll back you wiil see many download options (ignore the “Backup” options), the best options are SD and HD (when available), you can click on “Show size” to see how big the files will be, to download simply click on “Download now” and it should start downloading within seconds. I checked it with “Incompresso” just now and it seems that the HD option is about 700mb smaller than the uloz file, so looks like it’s a good option and it’s still pretty good quality.

Hopefully I was clear, let me know if you need more help.

      Best,
      Jon.

I’ve only found your site recently, but I’d been looking for Daddy Long Legs (1931) and Gli uomini, che mascalzoni… (1932) for ages, and what luck to find them both in one spot! I can’t wait to look at some of the others you have posted.
I was wondering if you could help me track down a French movie called Casino de Paris (1957), with Vittorio De Sica, Caterina Valente, and Gilbert Bécaud. I’ve only ever been able to find fragments of it, and as far as I know it has never gotten a DVD release. Thanks!

I have several resources at my disposal, including karagara and a guy in Europe with a catalogue of 85000 titles for sale, and none have this listed!!! It isn’t on any torrent site either!

If you can find it I’ll be incredibly gratified.

My #2 title – a backup – is Claude Boissol’s super rare 1960 technicolor farce 3 Etcs and the Colonel, aka Trois etc. du colonel, aka Tre eccetera del colonnello.
